On July 11th 2025, the Vitra Eames Roadshow exhibition opening took place at the El Greco Gallery showroom in Athens. Dedicated to Charles and Ray Eames, the most iconic American designers of the 20th century, the exhibition celebrates their groundbreaking work and enduring influence on modern design.
Curated by the Vitra Design Museum and the Eames Foundation, the exhibition brings together a comprehensive selection of the Eames’ most recognizable furniture pieces and objects, along with rare archival materials that shed light on their innovative thinking and the timeless relevance of their work.
As part of the exhibition’s opening, a live panel discussion titled “What Makes a Classic: Sustainable Legacy as a Source of Innovation” was held, featuring distinguished guests:
Eames Demetrios, Director of the Eames Foundation (Los Angeles)
Jaume Domenech, Director of Global Development at Vitra
Konstantinos Tsiampas, Professor at the National Technical University of Athens
Dimitris Koliadimas, Creative Director at Semiotik Design
Following the panel, architect Eraclis Papachristou presented Eameses’ work with a special focus on the Kwikset House, a prefabricated residential project originally conceptualized by Charles and Ray Eames. The presentation explores how the Eames’ architectural work continues to exemplify sustainability, forward-thinking innovation, and timeless design principles that remain relevant today.
This event offered a unique opportunity to engage with the legacy of two of the most influential figures in design history, while also reflecting on the relevance of their architectural ideas in contemporary practice.
The exhibition will run from 11th until the 31th of July at El Greco Gallery, 212 Kifissias Ave. Chalandri,Athens.
