A series of almost disparate elements and their absence are employed in creating the vocabulary for this design. Screens, glazing, surfaces and perforations are used to inform each part of the language differently. The tension between these parts creates a conversation where, although elegant, there are no defined answers. What holds what? Where does the structure do its work?
Despite the small scale of the development and site itself a further conversation has been developed with the external spaces, defining the movement between these. A structure which evolves from a heavy concrete base to a lighter steel structure above ground permits this vocabulary to be explored. The result is an intriguing lightness of volumes which merge to form an object that enjoys a greater presence than one would expect from its actual mass.
