Residential Complexes

Residential and Retail Complex

A competition focused on a gesture which responds in various ways to its context and functions. This folding element in space indicates the continuity of the urban fabric. The building volumes do not keep to the site boundaries in order to avoid the typology of the closed square. Below this element is the commercial zone, above the housing element. The fold further forms three residential zones with voids between them, in to which the green element extends from the lower level. A further element within this game is the presence of the pool.

The scale of the Southern volume makes reference to the neoclassical neighbourhood, while the main housing volume on Mylerou Street restores urban continuity. Self-defined, transparent commercial spaces occur within the concept of the sheltered ‘agora’, while a perforated façade allows views of the Metaxourgio from the residences. On the other side residential volumes open on to the central ‘agora’ space.
